Shapiro Administration Commits $134 Million to Drive Growth in Southwest Pennsylvania |
Statewide investment strategy targets jobs, infrastructure, and long-term economic strength |

Governor Josh Shapiro has announced more than $134 million in funding for 100 projects across Southwestern Pennsylvania through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), a key initiative aimed at strengthening communities and expanding economic opportunity. The investment is part of a broader $445 million statewide effort supporting 356 projects designed to improve infrastructure, enhance public safety, and promote workforce development. The RACP program provides reimbursement grants for critical design, construction, and redevelopment efforts that deliver regional impact. Projects funded in this round span a wide range of priorities, including cultural assets, community facilities, housing development, and industrial expansion. In Southwestern Pennsylvania, funded initiatives include upgrades to workforce training centers, construction of public safety facilities, revitalization of downtown spaces, and improvements to recreational and educational infrastructure. Since taking office, Governor Shapiro has prioritized making Pennsylvania more competitive for business and investment. His administration has modernized the RACP application process, introducing a streamlined system and improved digital tools to make funding more accessible. These changes are intended to accelerate project timelines and encourage broader participation across communities. The impact of these investments builds on recent economic momentum. Pennsylvania has attracted over $41 billion in private investment and created more than 24,000 jobs in recent years. It now ranks among the top states nationally for job growth and business climate, and it is the only state in the Northeast currently experiencing economic growth, according to recent analyses. Additional support in the 2026–27 state budget includes funding for innovation programs, small business development, and revitalization of main streets. Together, these initiatives reflect a coordinated strategy to strengthen local economies, support job creation, and position Pennsylvania for sustained long-term growth. Sounds good, but I’ll believe it when I see real changes in our town. Seen a lot of big promises before.
Glad to hear about improvements coming to workforce centers and main streets. Maybe this will help keep more young people around here.
