Blair County’s October calendar is quickly turning into a full month of festivals, family outings and Halloween traditions, with events spread across Altoona, Hollidaysburg and nearby communities.
One of the first major weekends arrives Oct. 10, when Hollidaysburg PumpkinFest fills downtown with arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment and family activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The following weekend expands the choices with Sci-Fi Valley Con, seasonal markets, Downtown Altoona Oktoberfest and Halloween programming at Fort Roberdeau.
Baker Mansion’s Haunted Lantern Tours are scheduled on multiple October evenings, offering a local-history twist for residents who like their fall activities with a little atmosphere.
Later in the month, community celebrations include Boos & Brews, a haunted experience at the Railroaders Memorial Museum and additional Halloween gatherings around the county.
Halloween weekend itself brings several options, including Fright at the Field in Altoona and the 90th annual Hollidaysburg Halloween Parade on Oct. 31.
Because dates, admission rules and age requirements vary, families should confirm event details before heading out, especially for ticketed or limited-capacity activities.
For residents who want to stay close to home this fall, Blair County events offer something nearly every weekend, from daytime pumpkin fun to after-dark Halloween experiences.

If you're heading to PumpkinFest, give yourself time to walk around downtown. We always end up staying longer than we planned.
I used to watch the Hollidaysburg Halloween Parade with my grandparents. Hard to believe this is the 90th one. I might go back this year.
Does anyone know if the Railroaders Memorial Museum event is okay for younger kids? My son loves trains, but he scares pretty easy.
The haunted tour at Baker Mansion sounds good. I hope they share plenty of the history and don't make it all about scares.
I always look forward to PumpkinFest in Hollidaysburg. The crafts are fun to browse, and it's nice seeing downtown so busy.
