Blair County’s First Dog Park Opens in Duncansville |
Beau’s Dog Park gives local dogs a place to play, and a new community project a meaningful home. |
Blair County has a new destination for dog lovers: Beau’s Dog Park in Duncansville, the county’s first free public dog park. Located at 601 Park Drive beside Memorial Park, the fenced-in space gives pets a safe place to run off-leash, exercise, and socialize while owners enjoy a new gathering spot close to home. The park is more than a recreation area. It began as an Eagle Scout idea from 16-year-old Aran Corey and later grew with support from resident Nicole Flanders, who wanted to honor her dog Beau and raise awareness of canine kidney disease. Flanders helped raise much of the project’s $9,000 cost through a local 5K, and the borough chose to name the park in Beau’s memory. Community celebrations began with a ribbon-cutting, and a grand opening is scheduled for May 17 from 2 to 5 p.m., featuring a dog parade and costume contest. |
