Penn State QB Rocco Becht Surprises Local Youth with Shopping Spree |
Blair County children receive gifts and mentorship during special community event |
Members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County were treated to an unexpected experience during a recent visit to the new Academy Sports + Outdoors store. Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht joined the group, surprising the children by shopping alongside them. Thanks to a $5,000 donation, each child received a $200 gift card to spend on clothing, athletic gear, and footwear. For Becht, the event carried personal significance. He reflected on his upbringing, recalling how his parents prioritized giving back when his father played in the NFL. “My dad and mom, when I was little, they always gave a bunch of presents to a local children’s daycare for Christmas,” Becht said. “They always gave back when he was in the league, and that’s how they raised me.” Throughout the event, Becht walked through the store with the children, asking about their interests and helping them choose items. Community outreach has become a regular part of his routine, especially in the evolving era of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness). While NIL opportunities allow college athletes to earn income, Becht emphasized their potential to support meaningful causes. “I’ve been giving back for the past three years, and NIL has played a big role in that,” he said. “It’s helped me give back to the communities I’ve lived in. Seeing the kids’ smiles when I told them to go shop was pretty awesome.” |
