New EMS Station Planned to Cut Response Times in Claysburg Area

AMED project in Greenfield Township aims to improve emergency coverage amid regional growth

AMED is advancing plans to construct a new ambulance station in Greenfield Township, a move designed to significantly improve emergency response times for residents in and around Claysburg.

The proposed station will be built along Old Route 220 at Park Road, offering a more centrally positioned base for emergency crews. Currently, responders traveling from the existing station face response times of approximately 18 minutes when serving the Claysburg area—the longest within AMED’s coverage region.

According to AMED Executive Director Gary Watters, reducing that delay is a top priority.

“Time is really the key factor,” Watters said. “Right now, we’re seeing about an 18-minute response time for that area, which is the longest in our system. We want to bring that down and better serve the community.”

The need for improved coverage comes as the Claysburg area continues to grow. Ongoing development, along with an increase in businesses and industry along the corridor, has led to a gradual rise in emergency call volume over recent years.

Under the proposed plan, Greenfield Township will donate the land for the new facility, while AMED will fund the construction. If the project moves forward without significant delays, officials expect the station could be operational within the next year.
