Community-wide “Freedom Ride” will feature historic stops and conclude with celebration at PNG Field |
Motorcycle enthusiasts across the region are gearing up for the America 250 Freedom Ride in Blair County, a special event commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary. Scheduled for June 20, the escorted ride will begin with a brief ceremony at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home before traveling through the county and ending at PNG Field. Along the route, riders will stop at notable landmarks, including Fort Roberdeau, before joining the Altoona Curve’s anniversary celebration at the final destination. Event co-chairs Christina Dambeck and Jim Patterson organized the ride as both a tribute to the country’s history and a show of appreciation for local veterans. Dambeck emphasized that honoring those who served was central to the event’s mission. “We wanted to create something meaningful for our veterans, recognizing the sacrifices they made to protect our freedoms,” Dambeck said. “That’s what inspired the America 250 Freedom Ride.” Patterson highlighted the festive and symbolic nature of the ride, noting that organizers hope to gather at least 250 motorcycles to mark the milestone anniversary. “There’s no better way to celebrate America’s birthday than bringing riders together for a journey through the county,” Patterson said. “Seeing 250 or more motorcycles on the road will be a powerful tribute.” Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with riders scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m. The first 250 participants who register on-site will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and patch. While participation in the ride is free, donations will be accepted to help offset event costs. After completing the ride, attendees are encouraged to continue the celebration at PNG Field as part of the Altoona Curve’s anniversary festivities.
