Punxsutawney Phil Brings Smiles to Hollidaysburg Luncheon |
United We Can speaker series welcomes young adults and prepares for November 5 finale |

Hollidaysburg enjoyed an unusual celebrity visit when Punxsutawney Phil appeared at a community luncheon on October 29.
The famous groundhog and members of his Inner Circle stopped at the U.S. Hotel for a gathering in the United We Can fall series.
The event brought a playful attraction to a program designed to connect and encourage young adults.
Founder Sue Griep had worked for several years to bring Phil to the series.
The visit gave attendees a chance to experience the familiar Groundhog Day personality in a smaller, more personal setting.
Phil is best known for his annual February appearance, but the Inner Circle also takes him to special events outside the traditional celebration.
Those appearances offer a different kind of interaction from the large crowds that gather in Punxsutawney each winter.
For the Hollidaysburg audience, the visit was a lighthearted moment of community connection.
Inner Circle representative Rob Gemmell, known as Storm Builder, highlighted the value of these more intimate gatherings.
The series continues beyond the groundhog's visit, with its final luncheon scheduled for November 5.
That closing program is set to feature Ellie Sheehan, the first female drum major of the Penn State Blue Band.
Her appearance will shift the spotlight from a beloved Pennsylvania mascot to a trailblazing young leader.
Together, the programs illustrate how a local luncheon series can introduce audiences to very different guests and experiences.
The combination of humor, personal stories and public figures gives participants opportunities to learn while enjoying time together.
The U.S. Hotel gathering also underscores Hollidaysburg's role as a place for community events that draw attention from across the region.
For residents who missed Phil's appearance, the November 5 finale offers another opportunity to follow the United We Can series.
The latest gathering was a reminder that memorable local moments do not always require a trip far from home. |

My family has made the trip to Punxsutawney in February, and the crowds are something else. Seeing Phil right here in Hollidaysburg would have been a welcome change.
Phil is fun, but I hope the United We Can luncheons keep their focus on encouraging young adults. Ellie Sheehan sounds like someone they could learn a great deal from.
Seeing Phil without the huge Groundhog Day crowd sounds like a much nicer experience. I hope the young adults at the luncheon had a chance to ask the Inner Circle some questions.
Sue Griep deserves credit for bringing Punxsutawney Phil to Hollidaysburg after years of trying. It must have been a real treat to see him up close at the U.S. Hotel.
