Blair County Roadwork Update: Late May Through Early June 2026

Ongoing projects bring delays, detours, and lane restrictions across major routes

PennDOT reminds motorists to use caution in all work zones by slowing down, staying alert, avoiding distractions, and following directions from posted signs and flaggers.

Route 866 Resurfacing Project (Williamsburg & Woodbury)

Significant delays of up to 15 minutes will continue along Route 866 (High Street and Piney Creek Road) through Friday, June 5, 2026. Daytime lane restrictions are in place as crews complete drainage pipe work and install impact basins.

This 1.5-mile, $2.6 million project—led by New Enterprise Stone & Lime—includes tree trimming, drainage upgrades, resurfacing, and pedestrian improvements. Work stretches from just west of Ridge Road (T-394) to Canal Street in Williamsburg and is expected to finish in November 2026.

Route 453 Improvements (Tyrone & Snyder Township)

Drivers should expect minor delays of three to five minutes through June 5 due to ongoing resurfacing and stabilization work. Activities include ADA ramp upgrades, inlet and culvert work (May 26–29), and milling and paving (June 1–5).

A section of Route 453 about one mile north of Beaston Road (T-514) remains closed, with a 23.5-mile detour in place through late August 2026 via Route 453, I-99, Route 865, and Route 253.

The $8.4 million project also includes guide rail updates, sidewalk and curb work, drainage improvements, and new traffic signals. New Enterprise Stone & Lime is the contractor.

Bellwood Signal Installation Project

Short delays of three to five minutes are possible at the intersection of Business U.S. 220 (East Pleasant Valley Boulevard) and Stadium Drive through June 5. Crews are installing poles and constructing ADA ramps.

M&B Services, LLC is completing the $329,621 traffic signal project, which is scheduled for completion in November 2026.

I-99 Marking and Safety Work (MM 26–33)

Motorists may encounter brief delays and shoulder closures through June 12 on I-99 between mile markers 26 and 33, including interchanges at Plank Road and 17th Street. Work includes pavement markings and installation of reflective tape.

This is part of a $26.7 million improvement project led by New Enterprise Stone & Lime covering a 10-mile stretch of I-99.

I-99 Road and Bridge Work (Exit 15 to Newry)

Lane restrictions, reduced speeds (60 MPH), and intermittent delays continue through June 12 between Exit 15 (Claysburg/King) and the Newry crossover. Work is focused between mile markers 23 and 26.2.

The East Freedom (Route 8025) bridge remains restricted to 8 feet 5 inches in width during rehabilitation work using hydrodemolition technology.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is leading this $23.9 million project, which includes paving, bridge rehabilitation, and installation of dynamic message boards. Completion is expected in June 2028.
