Blair County Secures Nearly $100K for Historic Baker Mansion Restoration |
State grant will support structural repairs and preserve a key cultural landmark for future generations |
The Blair County Historical Society has received a $99,250 grant to aid in the preservation and restoration of the Baker Mansion History Museum. State Representatives Judy Ward (R-30) and Andrea Verobish (R-79) announced the funding on June 18. The grant comes through the Keystone Historic Preservation Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). Ward emphasized the importance of protecting local heritage, noting that landmarks like Baker Mansion play a vital role in telling the story of the community. She said the funding will help safeguard the site while ensuring future generations can continue to explore and appreciate Blair County’s history. The restoration project will focus on stabilizing and repairing critical structural features of the mansion, including its well-known columns and second-floor porch. These improvements aim to maintain the building’s safety and accessibility for both residents and visitors. Verobish highlighted the mansion’s significance as a longstanding centerpiece of the community. She noted that the 175-year-old building not only houses the county’s historical society and museum, but also serves as a gathering place for events throughout the year. According to Verobish, the grant will help ensure the structure remains a strong and enduring part of the community for decades. Funding for the program is provided through the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund and managed by PHMC.
