Groundwater levels Pennsylvania in Blair County PA |
Including updates on drought warning Pennsylvania and drought watch pennsylvania |
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has recently expanded its drought declarations, placing Blair County under a Drought Watch as of February 19, 2026. This decision follows a meeting of the Commonwealth Drought Task Force on February 18, 2026.
Blair County joins a total of 34 counties now under Drought Watch status, while 17 counties have been elevated to Drought Warning. These updates reflect worsening conditions across Pennsylvania, particularly in the south-central and eastern regions, where declining groundwater levels and persistent precipitation deficits are evident.
In Blair County, groundwater monitoring data indicates that levels are approximately 101% of normal, with a depth to water level of 10.29 feet below the land surface. However, this stability may be misleading, as the region continues to experience below-average precipitation, which could lead to future declines.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through communications from local water suppliers. Depending on localized conditions, water suppliers or municipalities may request continued conservation efforts. The DEP consistently advises voluntary reduction of nonessential water use to help mitigate the effects of the ongoing drought.
For a comprehensive list of public water suppliers with mandatory and voluntary water conservation restrictions, residents can consult the DEP's Drought Information webpage. Staying proactive and informed is crucial as the Commonwealth navigates these challenging conditions. |
