PennDOT Unveils Major Infrastructure Push Across Central Pennsylvania |
Over $209 million will fund road repairs, bridge upgrades, and transportation improvements in six counties |
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to invest more than $209 million into over 50 infrastructure projects throughout Central Pennsylvania. The initiative will focus on improving 105 miles of roadway and addressing work on 89 bridges across Cambria, Somerset, Fulton, Blair, Bedford, and Huntingdon counties. Officials say the upgrades are aimed at strengthening transportation safety, efficiency, and regional economic growth. “Every project we undertake plays an important role in ensuring safe and reliable travel for both residents and visitors,” said District 9 Executive Vince Greenland. “These improvements also support local businesses by maintaining critical shipping routes and enhancing overall connectivity.” Several major projects already underway will continue into 2026. In Blair County, crews are replacing the Route 3013 (Dunnings Highway) bridges over Dry Run and Blair Gap Run at a cost of $5.4 million. Fulton County will see $19 million in resurfacing work along Interstate 70 eastbound from Amaranth to Bedford. Meanwhile, Somerset County is receiving $26 million in upgrades along U.S. 219 between U.S. 30 and North Somerset. Additional projects are scheduled to begin this year across the region. In Bedford County, resurfacing projects will target sections of U.S. 30 from Breezewood to Everett, as well as within Bedford Borough, along with improvements to Route 4009. Blair County projects include resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation along Interstate 99, slope stabilization work on Route 453, and roadway improvements on Route 36 and Route 866. Cambria County will undergo resurfacing along U.S. 22 and Route 756, in addition to several bridge replacement projects. Fulton County will see smaller bridge replacements on Hill Road and Route 655. Huntingdon County projects will focus on culvert replacements along Routes 655 and 994. Somerset County will also benefit from multiple bridge replacement efforts, including work on U.S. 219 and several local routes. PennDOT is reminding motorists to exercise caution in construction zones by reducing speed, using headlights, staying alert, and following posted signs and flagger directions. |
