PennDOT Alerts Motorists to Potential Delays Due to Windmill Component Transports |
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that starting December 8, superloads carrying windmill components will traverse Central Pennsylvania, potentially causing significant traffic delays.
These oversized loads are destined for the Highland North Wind Farm near Beaverdale in Cambria County. The transportation schedule is as follows:
Monday, December 8
A superload carrying a nacelle (the windmill's motor housing) will depart Clearfield County at 8 a.m., traveling via Interstate 80 to Interstate 99 in Centre County, then proceeding through Blair County on I-99 to U.S. 22. The route continues into Cambria County on U.S. 22, accessing U.S. 219 in Ebensburg, and then south on U.S. 219 to the St. Michael-Sidman Exit. From there, it will follow Route 869 (Locust Street), pass through St. Michael and Sidman to Route 160 (Mill Road), Route 2006 (Fieldstone Avenue), and Route 2010 (Frankstown Road).
Monday, December 8 to Wednesday, December 10
Each day, three superloads carrying windmill blades will depart Clearfield County at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m. They will follow Interstate 80 to Interstate 99 in Centre County, continue into Blair County on I-99, and use Exit 23 (Roaring Spring-Portage) to access Route 164 (Dunnings Highway/Johnstown Road) to Route 2010 (Frankstown Road) in Cambria County.
Motorists are advised to anticipate delays, as these superloads will travel at or below posted speed limits and may occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass. PennDOT recommends using alternate routes when possible and staying alert for these slow-moving operations.
For real-time traffic updates, drivers can utilize PennDOT's 511PA service. |
