Blair County Rallies: Toasty Toddler Program Serves 710 Children This Winter |
A massive community effort led by the Family Resource Center ensures the county's youngest and most vulnerable residents stay warm through the cold months. |
This winter, the chill is a little less harsh for hundreds of local families facing tough times.
The incredible generosity of our community ensured the Toasty Toddler Program serves 710 children with essential winter warmth.
It’s a number that represents 710 individual stories of comfort and care.
Each child, from birth through age five, received a brand-new coat, hat, and pair of gloves, distributed just as the coldest weather of the season began to settle in.
The program is a cornerstone of local support, facilitated by the dedicated team at the Family Resource Center of Blair County.
This vital initiative operates under the umbrella of the United Way of the Southern Alleghenies, channeling community spirit into direct action.
The collection and distribution effort is a true testament to the heart of Blair County.
More than 32 area businesses, clubs, churches, schools, and civic groups rallied to the cause.
Donations of supplies and crucial funds poured in, starting back in September to prepare for the winter months.
Referrals for the program come from education, health care, and social service agencies that work directly with families in need.
An army of 48 volunteers dedicated a combined 101 hours to sort, pack, and distribute the winter gear, ensuring every child’s package was ready.
Their selfless dedication is the engine that makes this entire operation possible.
While the main distributions in November and December have concluded, the need for support is ongoing.
The Family Resource Center continues to fill individual needs as new referrals and donations arrive.
