In late April, the Ivyside Dance Ensemble concluded its spring performance, marking a significant moment for the Penn State Altoona community.
At the final curtain call, Layna Henry, a psychology major from Hollidaysburg, took her last bow as a member of the ensemble, symbolizing the culmination of her diverse and impactful college journey.
Henry's dedication and contributions were recognized when she received the prestigious Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award during the Student Awards Ceremony on April 27.
This award honors students who exemplify outstanding character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship, with a strong emphasis on academic excellence and service to the campus community.
Throughout her time at Penn State Altoona, Henry engaged in extensive undergraduate research, focusing on premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) for her Schreyer Honors College thesis.
She presented her findings at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Fair, earning first place in the social sciences category for the second consecutive year.
Beyond academics, Henry served on the Chancellor’s Student Advisory Council, providing valuable insights to campus leadership.
She also showcased her talents in the performing arts, participating in the Ivyside Dance Ensemble and taking on a lead role in the fall 2025 production of "Working: A Musical."
Reflecting on her experiences, Henry expressed gratitude for the opportunities that allowed her to grow and make a meaningful impact on campus.
Her journey at Penn State Altoona stands as a testament to the university's commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals who excel in both academic and extracurricular pursuits. |
