County fairs light up central Pennsylvania as summer winds down, bringing families and friends together for a season of classic fun.

 

Somerset County Fair in Meyersdale celebrates its 126th year from August 21–29, featuring animal exhibits, competitions, and a welcoming community spirit.

 

The Westmoreland Fair in Greensburg shares these dates, offering everything from demolition derbies to 4-H showcases, crafts, and hands-on farm exhibits—plenty for all ages.

 

Locally in Blair County, the Williamsburg Community Farm Show (August 23–28) draws crowds with nightly entertainment, agricultural displays, and craft shows, emphasizing its role as the region’s largest local fair.

 

The Indiana County Fair (August 28–September 5) highlights agricultural sciences alongside rides, traditional foods, and friendly competition.

 

Rounding out the season, Ebensburg’s American Legion County Fair (September 6–12) is known as a “homecoming,” where families reconnect over carnival rides, grandstand events, and local traditions.

Motorcycle enthusiasts from across the region will unite for the America 250 Freedom Ride in Blair County, set for June 20 to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary.

 

The escorted ride starts with a ceremony at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, then travels past landmarks like Fort Roberdeau, culminating at PNG Field for the Altoona Curve’s anniversary celebration.

 

Co-chairs Christina Dambeck and Jim Patterson organized the event as a way to pay tribute to local veterans and celebrate America’s rich history.

 

Organizers hope to gather at least 250 motorcycles, symbolizing the milestone. The first 250 riders to register on-site—starting at 9:30 a.m.—will receive a commemorative T-shirt and patch.

 

Participation is free, though donations are welcome, and all are invited to continue celebrating at PNG Field after the ride.

Blair County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous materials during a special collection event on Saturday, July 18.

 

The 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Collection will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jaffa Shrine, helping locals properly discard dangerous substances that shouldn’t go in regular trash.

 

There’s a base fee of $25 per vehicle and an extra $0.50 per pound for paint—cash or check only at the event.

 

Pre-registration is required but free.

 

Accepted materials include fluorescent bulbs, automotive fluids, pesticides, fertilizers, paint thinners, aerosol cans, and all types of paint.

 

Residents must stay inside their vehicles while staff remove items from trunks or truck beds for safety.

It's a wonderful shoutout to a local artist giving his time to help local kids turn their doodles into multi-page graphic novels and comic strips.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has officially opened registration and donation tracking for its annual Blair County community fundraiser. This incredibly important movement raises vital funds that stay right here in Pennsylvania to support mental health research, advocacy, and educational programming in our local schools and workplaces. It’s a beautiful way to walk in remembrance, support survivors, and build a community where no one feels alone.

  • Details: While the physical walk takes place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Lakemont Park in Altoona, fundraising pages and team formations are actively rallying community support online this week.
